"The pain of crisis is the window to renewal"
Michael Nichols
Although it is hard to trust an addict after having been lied to for years, the addict needs space to develop a new way of living. Part of that recovery generally includes meetings with other recovering people with time spent away from home once again.
The more the family members learn about recovery, the better they will be able to support the addicts recovery and their own recovery (generally from codependency).
Remember, addiction is a family disease as all family members learned ways of relating to the addiction which need to be healed. therefore, all family members need to learn the roles they played in the web of deception.
Family members can attend Al-Anon, Al-A-Teen, Codependency groups called Codep or CODA. ACA was started as the Adult Children of Alcoholics but anyone from a family that had problems communicating can benefit from ACA.
I presently live in the Fort Lauderdale area and the twelve-step meetings here include 12 step meetings that are labeled as having an adult children point-of-view as well as being about addiction.
